Please help STOP the Red Sticker requirement of KYLEIGH's Law!! Recently our state legislature passed a law meant to protect our young drivers. Unfortunately that law will backfire horribly and put them at great risk. The red decal that Kyleigh's Law requires all provisional drivers (first year of licensed driving under the age of 21) to place on their license plates will make these young drivers targets of predators. Look to the events in Florida several years ago. Decals that were meant to help police identify rental vehicles were used by criminals to victimize and even murder tourists unfamiliar with their surroundings. Our new drivers will also be unfamiliar with the experience of driving a vehicle. The red decal that is supposed to help police indentify these drivers to enforce curfews and passenger limits also puts them at risk of being victimized by the same unscrupulous people that victimized people in Florida. Thomas Jefferson said: "Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Let us repeal the red sticker portion of Kyleigh's Law ASAP!! If you believe as I do that the red decal requirement on our children's cars will make them a target, PLEASE look up your NJ state reps and send them an e-mail. http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/SelectMun.asp Or cut and paste what I sent: Dear Legislator, I am a concerned parent of a teenager who will now be required to be identified by a red decal on her license plate. I do not see how a red sticker will make her a safer driver and am concerned about the risks that having this sticker on her car will present. Identifying her as a new driver will open her up to the risk of being taken advantage of by predators and other sick people. As a reference look into the Florida law requiring stickers on rental cars. People unfamiliar with their surroundings were taken advantage of and some were murdered. Our inexperienced young drivers face similar risks. The red sticker is a method for police to enforce rules that will increase revenues at the risk of harm to our children. Unfortunately Kyleigh would not have been saved by a red sticker, PLEASE don't put my child at risk of harm for this same sticker. Please repeal Kyleigh's Law. Through grass root action we can get our representatives to repeal this dangerous law. http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/districts/municipalities.asp
